Our commitment to raising healthy, happy Siberian kittens

Our Health Philosophy

At Norvella Siberians, the health and well-being of our kittens is our absolute top priority. We believe that a healthy kitten is the foundation for a lifetime of happiness with your family. Every decision we make in our breeding program is guided by this commitment to health.

We carefully select our breeding cats based on health, genetic testing, and temperament. Our kittens receive exceptional veterinary care from birth, proper nutrition, and a clean, safe environment that promotes optimal health and development.

What's Included

Every kitten from Norvella Siberians comes with comprehensive health care and documentation:

Complete veterinary examination

Age-appropriate vaccinations

Deworming treatments

FeLV/FIV testing

Complete health records

Genetic health considerations

Veterinary Examination

Each kitten receives a thorough veterinary examination by a licensed veterinarian before leaving our care. This examination ensures the kitten is healthy and free from any congenital defects or health issues.

Age-Appropriate Vaccinations

Our kittens receive FVRCP vaccinations appropriate for their age. We follow the recommended vaccination schedule and provide detailed records so you can continue care with your veterinarian.

Deworming Treatments

All kittens receive regular deworming treatments starting at an early age. This preventive care ensures your kitten is free from internal parasites.

FeLV/FIV Testing

Our breeding cats are tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) to ensure they are negative. This testing protects the health of both our cats and your new kitten.

Complete Health Records

You will receive complete health records documenting all veterinary care, vaccinations, deworming treatments, and examination results. These records are essential for continuing care with your veterinarian.

Genetic Considerations

We carefully select our breeding pairs to minimize genetic health risks. Siberian cats are generally a healthy breed, but we remain vigilant about genetic conditions and make informed breeding decisions to promote the health of future generations.

Health Guarantee Terms

72-Hour Health Guarantee

We require that you take your new kitten to a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of receiving them. This examination must confirm the kitten's health status. If a congenital defect or health issue that was present at the time of adoption is diagnosed within this period, we will work with you to address the situation.

One-Year Genetic Health Guarantee

We provide a one-year genetic health guarantee against life-threatening genetic defects. If your kitten is diagnosed by a licensed veterinarian with a life-threatening congenital or hereditary condition within the first year, we will replace the kitten or provide a refund of the adoption fee (excluding shipping costs). This guarantee requires proper veterinary care and documentation.

Conditions and Exclusions

The health guarantee does not cover:

  • Treatable conditions such as parasites, upper respiratory infections, or coccidia
  • Conditions resulting from injury, neglect, or improper care
  • Conditions resulting from failure to follow recommended veterinary care
  • Normal variations in size or appearance
  • Allergies (environmental or food-related)
  • Conditions caused by exposure to infectious diseases after adoption

Siberian-Specific Health Notes

Siberian cats are generally a robust and healthy breed with few breed-specific health concerns. Their natural development over centuries in harsh climates has contributed to their strong constitution and overall hardiness.

However, like all breeds, there are some conditions we monitor for:

  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) - a heart condition we screen for in breeding cats
  • Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) - rare in Siberians but monitored

Our careful selection of breeding cats and health testing help minimize the risk of these conditions. We stay current with research and best practices in Siberian cat health.

Your Responsibilities as an Owner

Maintaining your kitten's health is a partnership between us and you. To ensure the health guarantee remains valid, we require that you:

  • Take your kitten to a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of adoption
  • Follow recommended vaccination and preventive care schedules
  • Provide high-quality nutrition appropriate for growing kittens
  • Keep your kitten indoors or provide supervised outdoor access only
  • Maintain a safe, clean living environment
  • Provide prompt veterinary care for any health concerns
  • Keep us informed of any health issues that arise
  • Maintain all veterinary records and receipts

Veterinary Care Recommendations

We recommend establishing a relationship with a veterinarian before bringing your kitten home. Your veterinarian will be your partner in maintaining your kitten's health throughout their life.

Regular veterinary care should include:

  • Annual wellness examinations
  • Continuation of vaccination series as recommended
  • Regular parasite prevention
  • Dental care monitoring
  • Weight and nutrition monitoring
  • Discussion of spaying/neutering at the appropriate age

We are always available to discuss health concerns and provide guidance. Your kitten's health and happiness are important to us, even after they go home with you.
